“Good plastic surgery must be safe and look natural- not constructed.”

The Mirror: Could you share your training and professional background?
Dr. Suthat: I graduated MD from Chiang Mai University and hold Thai board certification in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. I am a member of the Society of Plastic Surgeons of Thailand. I completed training in General Surgery at Rajavithi Hospital and Plastic Surgery at Ramathibodi Hospital. I also undertook international training, including a master's-level programme in craniofacial surgery at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Taipei, Taiwan, and a gluteal augmentation course in Thailand. I worked for nine years in general surgery, then spent two years as a plastic surgeon at Phyathai Hospital, and I currently practice at Yanhee International Hospital. With over a decade devoted to aesthetic surgery, my subspecialty focus is on zygomatic reduction, mandibular angle reduction, and genioplasty. I perform over 250 mandibular/jaw surgeries per year and more than 150 zygomatic reductions per year.

Motivation for Plastic Surgery

The Mirror: Why choose plastic surgery?
Dr. Suthat: Plastic surgery integrates medical science with design. It involves analysing a patient’s baseline anatomy and planning corrections tailored to the desired outcome, thereby supporting self-confidence.

Choosing Yanhee International Hospital

The Mirror: Why practise at Yanhee International Hospital?
Dr. Suthat: Yanhee is an accredited hospital with superior recognition in aesthetic surgery and is widely associated with cosmetic procedures in Thailand.

How the Field Has Evolved

The Mirror: How does contemporary practice differ from the past?
Dr. Suthat: There is greater public acceptance, more treatment centres, and significant advances in technology and technique. Surgery today is generally more efficient and less painful than in the past.

Why More People Seek Surgery Now

The Mirror: Why has demand increased?
Dr. Suthat: Modern surgery offers higher safety, better outcomes, improved materials, and more advanced training for surgeons. Social media also increases the importance of appearance in daily interactions.

Popular Procedures at Yanhee

The Mirror: Which procedures are most requested?
Dr. Suthat: Rhinoplasty, upper-eyelid (double-eyelid) surgery, chin augmentation, and the current trend toward a slimmer “V-shaped” face. Many Asian patients have relatively broad mandibular angles and prefer a narrower jawline.

Techniques for Natural Results

The Mirror: What techniques help achieve the most natural outcomes?
Dr. Suthat: Drawing on more than 10 years of specialised experience, I use a custom-made long-shaft oscillating equipment—designed and refined specifically for mandibular angle surgery to reach the posterior mandible and contour within narrow spaces, producing a smooth, natural jawline.
Another technique involves chin lengthening/reconstruction by grafting bone harvested from the zygoma and mandibular angle to increase vertical chin height without causing postoperative sagging. These methods enhance facial balance while maintaining a natural appearance.

Patient Selection

The Mirror: Do all patients who consult proceed with surgery?
Dr. Suthat: No. If a patient already has feasible proportions, I advise against surgery. Each consultation includes an explanation of what is suitable because genuine attractiveness begins with inner confidence; external appearance should only support that.

Safety Principles for Prospective Patients

The Mirror: How should patients pursue surgery safely?
Dr. Suthat: Verify surgeon credentials via the Medical Council of Thailand and the Society of Plastic Surgeons of Thailand, and choose an accredited hospital. Do not rely solely on photo-based reviews.

Your Most Memorable Case

The Mirror: A case that left a strong impression?
Dr. Suthat: A motorcyclist with multiple facial fractures- including nasal and palatal fractures- underwent facial skeletal reconstruction. The patient was pleased with the outcome and shared the results on social media, which was professionally gratifying.

Outlook for Plastic Surgery in Thailand

The Mirror: How should the field develop?
Dr. Suthat: First, emphasise safety and standards. Then prioritise precise facial analysis to achieve the most natural corrections, supported by continually advancing techniques and equipment.

All plastic surgery requires specialist expertise to ensure short- and long-term safety. Results last a lifetime; fees should be reasonable, and outcomes should appear natural. Patients should thoroughly research and select a qualified plastic surgeon to achieve satisfactory and safe results.
